When compared to other varieties, hass avocado trees yield more; a mature tree can produce more than a million blossoms. The majority of Hass trees bloom twice a year, with an occasional third bloom. Hass trees reach a height of 15 to 30 feet and begin to give fruit in three to five years. A tree typically lives for several decades. The Hass avocado fruit has rough, dark green skin that becomes darker as it ripens, almost black in color, in contrast to other avocados that have smooth, green skin. Hass avocados, like all avocados, can be left on the tree for several months after the fruit has reached maturity. They only ripen once they are removed from the tree. Hass avocados are richer in flavor and have a smoother, creamier texture than other kinds due to their higher fat content in relation to other avocado varieties. Hass avocados account for 80% of the avocados consumed worldwide; the remaining 20% are primarily made up of other types.
